Nobody told me…
…what happens AFTER you make the decision to change careers, finish 7-months of intensive trade school and then get spit back out into the world to start your new career? I’ll tell you what happens! Panic, fear and a lot of second-guessing my decision thanks to having too much time on my hands while I wait patiently for close to 8 weeks for my WA State massage license! I even included a note that said I had been unemployed for over a year and was hoping they could expedite my license, but I guess the word ‘expedite’ isn’t in the Department of Health’s vocabulary! Sigh.
So yes, I am a little depressed, overwhelmed, scared as shit and frustrated. I’ve lost a lot of momentum post graduation, but I am determined to do ONE thing every day that gets me ready for the day I get my license in the mail. Things like finishing my cover letter and resume, emailing or calling down the list of industry contracts that were referred to me by friends and family, and of course trying to massage friends and family (for free mind you!!) so that I maintain the skills learned in school. It’s exhausting, but it’s a good lesson in perseverance and determination and I hope to hell it pays off with a great job at the end of the day. Fingers crossed.
be honest — does this blog post count as your “one thing” today?
did you get your inspiration for the “one thing” by watching Jack Palance in City Slickers???
haha! Nope and nope. I actually already did two job related things today and it’s only noon! This is unusual for me…I must have slept last night or something.
Man, I am so there with you. Went through a year of retraining to retool my career, finished the end of March, and have been out again looking. And….nothing. Not that I’m not qualified, it’s that there are others who are MORE qualified/experienced. I do have a contingent offer for a Federal position I applied for in April, but people tell me it will be at least 6-8 MONTHS before that may be finalized. Did I mention my unemployment benefits end in 3 weeks (sigh).
Sigh is right! And the benefits ending in 3 weeks?? Eek! Good luck with things and guess we can only try to keep our heads up, right? Or, sell it all and move to Mexico? LOL!
